A mother's prayer

Pippa Botha - A Mother's prayer

I'm sitting outside a school building at 18h45 on a Monday evening. It brings back memories of waiting for little ones to rush out at the end of a school day full of chatter and smiles ...or tears.

This time is different in that, although I'm still waiting for my child, he has grown up and this is his first interview for a teaching post. Funny how a mother's prayers stay the same throughout the years:

Lord please be merciful towards my son.

Lord may Your goodness and mercy follow him all the days of his life.

Lord surround him with Your peace. Show him Your ways. Reveal Yourself to Him.

When he was small, I felt the heaviness of responsibility in his upbringing. Now I know the relief that he has bent his knees to worship Jesus with his whole heart. Today I pray that God's will may be done. May my son know the comfort of being in God's perfect will. Though things may not end up as expected, may he know that the safest place on earth is in Jesus. May he sing with the saints throughout the ages,

"Whatever my lot He has taught me to say, it is well with my soul"
