Following Jesus

Yesterday while walking near Breakfast beach in Vermont, I was blessed to see a beautiful duiker in the brush about two meters from the footpath. It was standing very quietly and watching me intently. What a peaceful experience! For about a minute we watched each other and then it went scampering on its way.

Riekert and I have had a very busy month of ministry with lots of blessing, some stress and a bit of hurt in between. We didn’t have much time to recover from the emotional and spiritual rough and tumble so we had to deal with each day as it came. This is where obedience is such a comfort. It’s the one thing that is constant. We can’t always stop and assess the whys and why nots of our walk with Jesus but we can always rely on the Who and the how. Jesus is our focus and doing what He instructs is our sole purpose.

The gentle duiker in such a man-made environment made me think of Jesus and His calling. We are foreigners in this world and our lives must testify to this fact.

For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth. Who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously… 1 Peter 2:21-23

Like the duiker , may our presence and our actions be an gentle reminder to the world of God’s goodness. We are called to be light and salt in a world that Jesus loves dearly.

God bless you in your faithful walk with Him.
