The Gate

I am the gate. Those who come in by me will be saved; they will come in and go out and find pasture. John 10:9

I love a walled garden with a gate. The promise of secluded beauty and peace within; the hope of friendly reception on entering an exclusive sanctuary. A gate says, “no hostile party may enter here”. A gate says, “safety within”. A gate says, “welcome home”!

With the building of L’Abri, meaning “The Shelter”, every detail needs to convey the message of welcome and comfort. The arched gateway with it’s wooden door reminds us of the words of Jesus in John 10.

Jesus, our Gate, invites us to enter into His peace; into loving fellowship with His Father. Jesus promises safety and sustenance in His presence, beauty for ashes, joy for mourning and a garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. And when all is said and done, Jesus our Gate welcomes us home!
